Elected in November 2015, Mayor Gary A. Joiner is beginning his first 4 years as the chief executive officer of the Village of Commercial Point. Mayor Joiner brings to this community 30 years of public service, from serving in the U.S. Army, as a law enforcement professional, and business leader his experience gives him a great foundation for leading our village. His wife Tracy and son Aaron have been residents here for 8 years and are very proud to be part of the Commercial Point family. The Municipality of Commercial Point operates under a "Mayor, Administrator, Council" form of government, as specified in the Ohio Revised Code. The Mayor is elected from the Municipality at large to a four-year term and is the chief executive and law enforcement officer of the Municipality. The Mayor is responsible, and has the authority together with the Administrator, to administer and generally control, direct and supervise all administrative departments and divisions, including appointing, promoting, removing or otherwise disciplining members of the Police Department. In addition, the Mayor serves as the President of Council and presides at all Council Meetings, but only votes in the case of a tie among the members of Council. Fiscal Officer Hastings was born in Port Clinton,
Ohio where she attended Port Clinton High School. After graduation she moved
to the Columbus area for 2 years and was employed by LCI International. In
1992 she married her husband Matt and relocated to Commercial Point. She
was employed by Teays Valley Local School District as an intervention aide
from 2004 through 2007.
Wendy began her career with the Village in February of 2007. At that time, she was hired as a part-time utility clerk. In June of 2007 the previous Clerk / Treasurer resigned and Wendy was appointed to fill the unexpired term. Later that same month the Village Council voted to change the elected position of Clerk / Treasurer to a permanent position of Fiscal Officer. Wendy was immediately appointed to the newly created position where she currently serves today.
Engineer Grosse is a lifetime resident of central Ohio. He graduated from Columbus South High School in 1968. Upon graduation, he attended the Ohio State University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. John holds a Professional Engineering license in the State of Ohio. He also holds a Class III Water Plant Operators License and a Class III Wastewater Treatment Operators License.
John has served as the Village Engineer for Commercial Point since 1978. He also serves as Engineer for several other communities in central Ohio. John helped design and oversee the construction of the original water treatment facility and sanitary sewer system in the Village of Commercial Point.
As Village Engineer, John provides technical guidance to the Council for the sanitary sewer system, water treatment facility, storm sewers, streets and all other engineering related matters.
The Village Administrator is appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by Village Council, and serves at their pleasure. The Administrator position in Commercial Point is a part-time position with random and varied weekly schedules and daily requirements.
The position of Village Administrator and its responsibilities are defined by the Ohio Revised Code. In part, the Administrator is responsible for oversight of Village services including utilities, street maintenance, sidewalks, parks and public areas, and service personnel.
Previous to this appointment, Ross has served the Village over 16 years including 8 years as Councilman, 8 years as Administrator under Mayor John Kaiser, interim Zoning Inspector, and one term on the Zoning Appeals Board.
Ross Crego is a Bachelor of Science graduate of The Ohio State University College of Agriculture. He is a military veteran having served in the United States Army during 1969-1971.
Ross and his wife Sandy are 45-year residents of the Village and celebrating 50 years of marriage! They met and were married at the Methodist Church in Commercial Point, and together they continue to worship and serve The Lord there. Sandy is active in worship and is the Director of the Free Store in the Village. She has a passion to provide for those who stand in need. Ross provides logistics for the Free Store and serves on the Missions Team at their Church. Ross and Sandy have 2 children and 5 grandchildren.
Ross enjoys the many challenges of the Administrator work and is especially appreciative of the quality of the individuals who work for the Village and provide its services, and are the "glue" that holds the Village together.
